Design

			Thesis: Mending the Cultural Fabric; Worcester, Massachusetts how can we use natural processes as an analogy on different scales? The thesis pursued a solution toward reversing the decay of the industrial city in a post-industrial age through imitating the process of photosynthesis. the city of Worcester, Massachusetts has such a history, and provides historical layers of adaptable industrial infrastructure to support new cultural development.

			Harvard Law School; Cambridge, Massachusetts The addition to the Harvard Law School is an individual entity, which is sited at the north end of Holmes Field in cambridge, massachusetts. The contextual relationship with regards to materials, forms, and use of space is vital to maintain a balance to the square. The trees provide a canopy whose function is emulated by a large overhang capping the primary facade.

			Urban Theater; New Bedford, Massachusetts The proposal for a new movie house in downtown New Bedford, Massachusetts contrasts the circumstances by which the town came to be. Attracting cultural functions into the dense historical fabric attempts to enliven the downtown with a more diverse audience, renewing the town with new purpose. Spaces activate surrounding pedestrian zones while providing architectural contrast.

			National Renewable Energy Laboratory; Boulder, Colorado A sustainable office building would incorporate existing site conditions to assist in the production and reduction of energy and energy consumption. A sustainable office building would explore new ways of office layouts that promote workplace comfort and reduce work absence, increase productivity and worker creativity in a space devoted to the research of cutting edge energy technologies.

			Florence, Italy The city streets themselves are merely cracks through a larger mass. A mass consisting of buildings constructed next to and on top of each other over so many centuries that they form a new landscape of rooftops above the city where the city street is not evident. Rocky forms of stucco and plaster rise out of a sea of terra-cotta, a splash of green accenting an occasional outcropping.
